DeckScreen Install Companion App

Privacy Policy

This policy describes how DeckScreen handles information when you use the iPad app io.deckscreen.app, the companion on the Steam Deck, and this website.

The short version. DeckScreen has no account. The picture and the sound move on the USB‑C cable between your Steam Deck and your iPad. They are encrypted on that cable. We do not upload them, store them, sell them, or use them to train models. The app has no advertising and no analytics.

1. Who we are

DeckScreen is a product of red capsule.

Privacy questions: privacy@deckscreen.io
Product support: support@deckscreen.io

2. The picture and the sound

With the cable connected, the companion sends the Steam Deck’s screen to the iPad. One USB‑C cable carries the picture and the sound. That traffic stays between those two devices. We do not run a server that receives the picture or the sound.

Desktop Mode captures the whole screen, including whatever is on it. There is no privacy filter. A password, a message, or a browser window on that screen is part of the picture the iPad shows. In Gaming Mode, the picture is the game the Steam Deck is already drawing.

Anyone who can see the iPad can see that picture. Unplug the cable and the picture stops.

3. What stays on your devices

4. Microphone

The app includes a microphone permission so a sound-alignment check can listen for a click against the picture. That check is not ordinary play. If it runs, the recording stays on the iPad and is not uploaded. You can refuse the permission. Play does not need it.

5. What we do not collect

6. The installer

The companion is a file you download and run once in Desktop Mode. The download is an ordinary request to the site that hosts it. That host can see ordinary request data, such as an IP address. The installer does not create an account.

7. This website

This site does not ask you to create an account, it does not run its own analytics, and it does not set its own cookies. The waitlist form sends the email address you type to a Cloudflare Worker. That Worker asks Cloudflare Turnstile to check that a person sent the form, then stores the address with Resend so we can write when DeckScreen is on the App Store.

The type on this site is loaded from Google Fonts. Google receives that request, including an IP address, under Google’s privacy policy. The service that hosts this website may also record ordinary connection data for a page request, such as an IP address, the time, and the browser.

8. Apple

The iPad app is $9.99, paid once. Apple processes that payment through the App Store. We do not receive your card number. Apple may tell us only what it needs to confirm a purchase, such as whether the app is entitled.

9. Sharing

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. The information we may hold ourselves is an email you choose to send us. We use that email to reply. If you join the waitlist, Resend holds that address for us and we use it to tell you when DeckScreen is on the App Store.

A page request may be processed by the site host, and a font request by Google, as described above. The waitlist check is processed by Cloudflare. A purchase, if you make one, is processed by Apple.

10. How long information stays

We do not hold a copy of your picture or your sound, so there is no copy for us to delete. Removing the iPad app removes what it stored on that iPad. Removing the companion from the Steam Deck user’s home removes it there. Saved iPad settings go with the app.

Emails you send us are kept long enough to answer, and as a record of that support, then deleted or archived in the ordinary course. An address you send for the waitlist is kept until we send that notice, then treated the same way.

11. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have a right to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold. For DeckScreen, that is the email you sent us. Write privacy@deckscreen.io.

If you are a California resident, you may have rights under the CCPA/CPRA to know, delete, or correct personal information we hold, and not to be treated differently for asking. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. Write the privacy address above. We will answer as the law requires.

12. Children

DeckScreen is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has emailed us, write privacy@deckscreen.io and we will delete that message.

13. Changes

We may update this policy as the app or the website changes. The new version will be posted at this address, with a new date. A material change may also be noted in an app update or on the website.
